State Controller, California

Betty is a California native who has been working to make California better for years. She was on the board of California Women Lead and the Cal Alumni Association at the University of California, Berkeley. As the current California state controller, she serves as the chief independent fiscal watchdog for the state of California, where she works to be a responsible steward of our tax dollars and an advocate for California consumers. Some of the things she has accomplished over the years include enacting state tax equity for same-sex couples before marriage equality became the law, making sure online retailers play by the same rules as Main Street retailers, preserving open space with tax relief for conservation easement grants, and providing free resources to the small-business, nonprofit, and women’s communities to promote tax compliance. Betty has been endorsed by a wide range of organizations and individuals, including EMILY's List, Equality California, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, the California Nurses Association, the California League of Conservation Voters, the California Democratic Party, 13 California newspapers, California Governor Jerry Brown, U.S. Senators Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, U.S. Representatives Ro Khanna and Judy Chu, state Senators Kevin De Leon, Ben Allen, and Holly Mitchell, and many others across California.

Betty Yee has been a consistent voice for progressive policies, integrity, intelligent conscientious attention to the duties of her office, and finding creative ways to make ordinary people's lives better through political actions. We could not find a better public servant." –Zipporah from Berkeley
