David is a progressive champion for education who will carry on the #Red4Ed fight in Arizona. He is a U.S. Army veteran, fourth-generation Arizonan, and the first in his family to graduate from college. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army infantry. His time as an infantryman instilled values that guide his life to this day: discipline, accountability, and duty. He was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal and the Humanitarian Award for fighting wildfires in Yellowstone National Park. Serving in the Army to protect our freedom remains one of his proudest life accomplishments. After his time in the U.S. Army, he went to Arizona State University, earning a bachelor's degree from the Honors College. He also received a master’s and doctorate from the University of Chicago and has become a nationally recognized expert in education research and policy. David has dedicated his career to improving Arizona public schools. His strengths include legislative experience, serving as a research analyst for the Arizona Senate, and leading the Arizona Department of Education as associate superintendent. In 2014, The Arizona Republic even called David a “Champion for Education.” In addition to gaining the endorsement of MoveOn members, he has also been endorsed by a wide range of organizations and individuals, including Democracy for America, VoteVets PAC, Planned Parenthood Arizona, the Arizona Education Association, People's Action, the Latino Victory Fund, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, People for the American Way, the Working Families Party, NARAL Pro-Choice Arizona, and over 85 local and national leaders across Arizona.

"David Garcia has proven to be a champion for education and women’s rights in Arizona. As governor of AZ, I think he would do everything within his power to continue to protect the rights of the those who need it." –Marina from Phoenix
