Position Sought

Lake County Sheriff, Illinois

Location

Illinois

Date of General Election

November 6, 2018

Lake County Sheriff, Illinois

John has worked in various capacities to protect the community and country he is a part of. He is a former Marine who has served as a federal agent for the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. John is deeply embedded in the community of Lake County. He currently serves as the president of the Illinois Police Association, commissioner for the Police and Fire Commission, and he is the commissioner for the Lake County Housing Authority. He is running against a Republican incumbent who has been widely criticized for taking photos with Jeff Sessions and sexually harassing a host on a talk radio show. He is running for Lake County sheriff on a platform that focuses on improving community relations by reframing police officers as ambassadors of the Lake County community, reducing recidivism by increasing educational and training opportunities for inmates, and overhauling training for sheriff's deputies by focusing on de-escalation tactics and reducing unnecessary physical violence.

"Idelburg will sweep the corruption out of the Sheriff’s Department. It is important to elect Dems on the local level who can rebuild the party." –Nancy from Highland Park
