Socorro is a lifelong union activist who has been working to improve working conditions for every Californian. She is a lifelong California resident who has worked to improve the High Desert community for years. She fought alongside Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers and worked to improve working conditions through helping to negotiate contracts, lobbying for improved safety standards, and organizing election campaigns. In addition to her work with unions, she has helped advocate for parents with special-needs children and fought against putting an industrial-sized energy farm in a residential neighborhood.

"She is one who understands (as did Barack Obama when we were electing him) from the standpoint of many Americans, not just her own. She is doing this work for betterment across the board, not for her own purposes. She isn't afraid to do the work to get fully informed. I've met her in person multiple times, and I see that type of person we saw in Obama. I'm thankful that she is willing to go through what it takes to do this necessary work for our state."–Di from Oak Hills
